Researchers exposed rats to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) for their entire lives and one of the findings is a statistically-significant increase in a cancer of the Schwann cells which form part of nerve tissue:
The significant increase was found in the male rats receiving 50 (volts/meter) V/m of 1.8 GHz EMF — the type you get from cell towers and at an electric field strength capable of being produced by a single cell phone). When you combine the hyperplasic cells (fast-dividing; pre-cancerous) in with the malignancy, you get more significance:
The green marking is for the observed counts, and yellow, orange, and red are counts that would be even more extreme findings had they been observed. At bottom right, the p-value of 0.0085 was found using the Fisher Exact Test.
Controlled animal studies indicate that wireless EMF radiation can cause cancer, confirming the prior epidemiological findings of observational studies in humans. Considering how they were able to create cancer in animals, it makes you question why the federal government recently decided to stop funding research in this area.
