In this prior report, a ballistics estimate (using audio forensics) on 3 unique distances was found for potential shooters at the Trump assassination attempt. But CNN reached out to university professors as part of its own analysis on the matter:
In the CNN report, a range of bullet speeds was used which was somewhat different from the original range in my prior post, so here is an update of the 3 unique shooter distances away from the podium, using average bullet speed of 2600 - 3280 feet-per-second (2600 fps - 3280 fps):
The short-range shooter is now estimated to have been from 380 - 440 feet from the podium. The medium-ranger shooter (second shooter) is estimated at 620 - 720 feet from the podium. The long-range shooter (third shooter) is estimated at 1,220 - 1,420 feet away from the podium:
The distance from the top of the water tower down to the podium might turn out to be equivalent to the mid-range shot heard (620 - 720 feet), but it seems less likely that it refers to the long-range shot heard (1,220 - 1,420 feet) — though only a laser distance finder would provide the actual distance from top of the tower to the podium.
